What experience is needed to become a Douglas J Salon owner?

We seek stylists, salon owners and other entrepreneurs who have a background in business and/or hands-on salon experience to join our program. Each salon requires a licensed cosmetologist manager to be onsite to supervise the staff; that manager may be the franchise owner, or may be a hired staff member. In exchange for your commitment to the Douglas J Salon brand and systems, we’ll provide the training, tools, and access to technologies, products and staffing resources you need to operate your hair salon franchise effectively.

What is provided as part of the Douglas J Salon program?

We will provide a comprehensive, initial pre-opening training program at our corporate location designed to prepare you and your team with the necessary knowledge and skills to run your business confidently. Additionally, we offer salon build-out assistance and a complete operations manual with established standards and procedures for you and your team to follow. Plus, your business will benefit from technology tools, including a pre-approved POS system that serves as a database for your guests, inventories and appointments. We offer periodic onsite support visits and ongoing assistance, as well as guidance for local marketing strategies.

How much will the Douglas J Salon franchise program investment cost me?

The total initial investment necessary to begin operations ranges from $247,950 to $379,132 for a new single unit franchised salon.  This includes a $30,000 initial franchise fee. As with any new venture, it’s important to have adequate capital to fund the initial business growth stages.

Is financing available?

No. We do not provide direct financing to franchisees, but we may refer to financing sources on a case by case basis.

Are there ongoing fees to pay?

We charge a royalty fee equal to 7% of weekly gross sales, and we may also charge a technology fee per month. Fees such as these allow us to fund our ongoing support services and the continued development of training programs, product and supply channels, marketing tools, and systems upgrades. For a full list of fees and requirements, please refer to our Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).

Are there any advertising fees?

Franchise owners will be required to spend the greater of $500 per month or 1% of gross sales on local marketing. Franchise owners will also contribute the greater of $125 a week or 1% of gross sales to the brand development fund. Collected funds will be used to develop marketing strategies to promote the Douglas J Salon brand and cover the costs to develop local marketing materials and campaigns.

What is the term of the agreement?

The initial term of your agreement is ten years, with two subsequent successor agreement options of five years each.
